Pro Tip: Crash Your Asus Laptop To Bring It Back To Normal

Asus N56VZ Power Button

A few days ago my N56VZ‘s touchpad went berserk.  Scrolling was laggy and gestures either wouldn’t register at all or would register late.  Sure I was using a bluetooth mouse so it wasn’t that big a problem – but what was I going to do when I had to take it with me to University?

A simple restart wouldn’t fix it.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers.  I prayed and made a sacrifice to the sun god Ra.  All to no avail.  However…

The Tip

Unplug your notebook – and crash it.  Hold the power button down to force it to shut down, wait a couple of seconds, then boot it up again.  The laptop will restore the old settings (those that worked) well and all will be good.  It’s really weird and I don’t know why this doesn’t happen after an ordinary restart but there you go!
